Sneaker care in Richmond

Sneaker Restoration and Cleaning

Kruneri cleans, de-yellows and repairs sneakers that have been worn hard. Suede, mesh, knit and leather uppers each get treated differently, so nothing gets soaked that should not be. Most pairs are ready in two days.

How we treat a pair

Cleaning built around the material, not the clock

A quick wash fixes light dirt and ruins suede. We sort each pair by upper material first and work out a plan before anything touches water.

Knits and mesh get a foam clean with a soft brush and air dry away from heat. Suede is brushed dry first, then treated with a gum cleaner and a suede-safe foam only where the nap needs lifting. Leather uppers come back with a saddle soap wash and a light conditioner so they do not crack at the flex point. Midsoles go through a separate process, because the yellowing is oxidation in the rubber rather than dirt. We apply a gel treatment, wrap the shoe and leave it under light for a set period. Soles are scrubbed, laces washed or replaced, and insoles deodorised before the pair is boxed.

Tell us if the pair has been through a washing machine at any point. Heat damage changes what is possible and we will say so up front.

Small repairs that save a good pair

Cleaning is the easy half. The rest is stitching, gluing and matching materials closely enough that nobody notices.

We keep a drawer of midsole scraps in common whites and creams, plus a few coloured panels for patch work. Torn linings get stitched from the inside, which means taking the insole out and putting it back properly. Lace eyelets that have pulled through get reinforced with a small leather washer behind the hole. It is slow work, and we only take on a set number of pairs a day so nothing sits half finished over a weekend.

Material first

Each upper is tested in a hidden spot before we use any product on it. Suede and nubuck never see a wet brush.

Odour handled properly

Insoles come out, get treated and go back dry. We are not spraying something on top and calling it done.

Colour matched

Touch ups on scuffed leather use a matched pigment, not a generic shoe cream that dries a shade off.

Our process

How a pair moves through the shop

Logged on arrival, photographed before and after, and never mixed up with anyone else's.

1

Logged and photographed

Each pair gets a tag with your details and a photo record of the condition it arrived in.

2

Material test

A small hidden patch is cleaned first to check the product does not mark or discolour the upper.

3

Dry brush and prep

Loose dirt, grit and old product come off before any liquid goes near the shoe.

4

Clean by material

Foam for knit and mesh, gum and brush for suede, saddle soap for leather. Three different jobs.

5

Midsole and sole work

Yellowing treatment, sole scrub and reglue happen here, with drying time built in between.

6

Rebuild and check

Laces go back in, insoles return dry, and the pair is checked against the arrival photos.

FAQ

Sneaker questions

The ones that come up most often at the counter. Anything else, just ask.

Not the way we do it. Knit gets a foam clean with very little water and dries at room temperature. Machine washing is what shrinks them.
Usually most of the way. Oxidation sits in the rubber, so a treated pair comes back noticeably lighter. If the yellowing has gone deep, we say so before starting.
We clean suede, just not wet. Dry brushing and a gum cleaner lift most marks. Oil stains are a different problem and sometimes cannot be fully removed.
Yes, on most pairs. We clean out the old adhesive, reactivate the surface and press the sole back with proper clamping. A full re-glue takes an extra day.
Two days for a standard clean, four for full restoration, and about a week if we are doing lining or panel repairs.
